Well, what do we have here? It looks like a leaked photo of the Palm Treo 800w. Just so happens, this photo has been released leaked on the same day as the CTIA Wireless conference. No one can confirm if this is real or a fake, but it’s refreshing to see some spy shots of the Treo 800w. The whole thing started in a TreoCentral forum discussion and the alleged image was shared by a friend of a Sprint engineer who was beta testing the unit. According to the source, he’s going to try and share a photo of the device. The current leaked image appears to be pulled from a PowerPoint presentation. No way to tell if the Treo has been dieting, so we’ll wait for the blurry cameraphone leaked photos before we get too excited.

Palm has released a new software update for the Palm Treo 700wx on the Sprint wireless network. This update is quite robust featuring support for DUN (dial up networking), A2DP (allows you to listen to stereo music via Bluetooth headphones) and hands-free improvements. Not too shabby. The Sprint Treo 700wx 1.15 update is a freebie. The update is designed to update your device while preserving your data. In some instances, your user set preferences may not be retained after updating. You can grab it at Palm’s site.

Tired of looking at the latest blurry photo of the rumored, but recently confirmed Palm Centro? Luckily, a leaked photo made it’s way to Dave’s inbox over at Mobility Today earlier this morning and this is indeed the real deal. Is there a crack in the armor at either Palm or Sprint, or perhaps they were growing tired of all the negative criticism surrounding the blurry photos making the rounds. This device is expected to drop on October 14th, thanks to a leaked release sheet courtesy of The Boy Genius Report. You get the picture. Leaks everywhere surrounding the Palm Centro. Interestingly, the release sheet lists the product sku as PTR690HKP and the name as Palm OS Device. The Palm Treo 755p is listed as such, but carries a similar sku #PTR755PHK. Only a few more weeks until we get the official goods on this device or until the next leak.

I suppose the appropriate title for this post would be rumors as several new rumors have cropped up surrounding new Treo devices. Rumored photos of a new Treo form factor codenamed Gandolf appeared on The Morning Paper blog. This image depicts what appears to be a new slim form factor Treo featuring a black casing running the Palm OS. The source claims this device will be available on Sprint in Q4 and support EVDO- Rev A.

This image was later followed up by another blurry photo leaked on TreoCentral’s forums. The second “Gandolf” image features a white casing and appears to be running Windows Mobile Smartphone and sports Vodafone branding. Vodafone is a GSM network, indicating this phone could be headed to AT&T Wireless if released in the US.

Although none of the images offer a side view of the new device, it appears Palm will look to position Gandolf against the Motorola Q and Samsung Blackjack, both slim form factor smartphones. Similarly, it appears this new Treo could be the first not to sport a touchscreen interface.
If this weren’t enough, there is a buzz surrounding two new Treos coming to Verizon. The Treo 755p, released last month by Sprint, was spotted by a member of Howard’s Forums on a Verizon release sheet. If correct, the Treo 755p will be available on Verizon as early as July 4th. Continuing the fireworks, there is also word of a Treo 800w coming September 13th. Among the hightlights, the Treo 800w is rumored to run Windows Mobile 6 and support WiFi. The latter being another first for a Palm Treo device. Running Windows Mobile 6 will also allow for Palm to release the new Treo 800w with a 320×320 resolution screen, something that was not possible with previous Windows releases due to limitations in Windows Mobile 5. There has been buzz that the Treo 800w will find its way to both Sprint and Verizon Wireless networks come this fall.

The long awaited Treo 700p software update is scheduled to be released during the week of May 28th. According to Steve Sinclair, Treo Product Manager, “we’re now in the carrier certification phase with the Treo 700p MR and as I type this, our best estimate of customer release will be the week of May 28th. In addition to the Bluetooth improvements I mentioned above, the 700p MR includes updates to SMS send/receive performance, MP3 playback, phone app launch speed and other areas. It’s admittedly been a much longer project than expected, but we’re almost there…”
Sinclair explains the process behind maintenance releases on Palm’s new blog.
While I understand the process, one year is entirely too long for a software update. Palm needs to either refine the process or devote greater resources in an effort to get releases out in a more timely fashion. You can discuss the Treo 700p update in our forums.
Thanks Palm!
The Sprint Treo 755p showed up on the Sprint website yesterday in a drop down menu meant to display previously sold sprint models. Over the past few weeks, we have seen leaked photos of the Treo 755p (and even more leaked photos this time of the maroon Treo 755p) along with Sprint documents detailing features. This latest flap just adds to the mountain of evidence leading to the forthcoming release of the Treo 755p. It’s no longer a matter of if, but when it will be released.

Thanks EngadgetMobile!
With the impending release of the Sprint Treo 755p, it is only natural that speculation would occur of a Verizon release considering both use CDMA technology. According to a tipster at EngadgetMobile known only as HTC guy, Verizon is prepping its version of the Treo 755p for release shortly after the Sprint release. Last year, both Sprint and Verizon released the Treo 700p within weeks of each other. If true, don’t look for many changes outside of the color. The Sprint Treo 755p is expected to hit streets around May 14th in both navy blue and maroon. No official word from Palm, Sprint or Verizon yet.
With the release of the Treo 750 and Treo 680 in the past few months, things have been quiet on the rumor front until now. According to a post over at SprintUsers, there is speculation that Palm will release the Palm Treo 755 in May of this year. The rumored Treo 755 will run the Palm OS and feature the form factor of the Treo 750. Other details include the following:
- Will be available in either burgandy or blue
- Support for IM included
- NFL Mobile
- Mobile Voice Control (Voice Dialing)
According to previous leaked Sprint documents, a Palm Treo codenamed “Sherlock” was scheduled for release in June. No word on whether the Palm Treo 755 being discussed is the same as Sherlock. Discuss the rumored Palm Treo 755 in our Treo forums.
Thanks Brighthand and SprintUsers!
The good folks at Gizmodo have posted a video comparing the Palm Treo 700w to the yet to be released Sprint Treo 700wx. As you’ll see in this video, the new 700wx is shipping with double the program memory.
