Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade for Treo 750 Now Mid December

Truth be told, the update to Windows Mobile 6 Professional for the Treo 750 is long overdue. The update has been floating around the Internet for months and many have reported success when upgrading WM5. So, if that’s the case, then where is the official release? Well, according to a source at Howard’s Forums, the delay is being caused by assorted bug fixes. AT&T is waiting on Microsoft to squash assorted bugs. The fixes then get routed back to the vendor (Palm in this case) for integration and then back to AT&T’s labs. This loop is the reason for delays. If this source is authentic, the target date for the Treo 750 WM 6 update is now mid-December. Ouch!

Treo 750 Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade Delayed by AT&T

It’s being speculated that the release of Windows Mobile 6 Professional upgrade in the US for the Palm Treo 750 is being delayed due to an issue with Good Messaging. Pardon the pun, but this doesn’t sound very good for customers of AT&T waiting to get their hands on this major upgrade. According to the rumor, “GetGood functionality is part of ATT’s base ROM, and since GMM 4.x versions are supposedly incompatible with WM6, the whole shooting match is waiting on GMM 5.0 to be complete.” If true, this could be the reason why Motorola has yet to release the Moto Q 9, which also gets the Windows Mobile 6 treatment. Palm has yet to announce a specific release date. Hang on Treo 750 owners. WM6 is in your future, we’re just not sure when.

Back in March, Palm announced that the Palm Treo 750 owners would be able to update their operating system to Windows Mobile 6 Professional. The Palm Treo 750 is currently available through AT&T. In some circles, some believe the hold up is AT&T who would like to announce the update in conjunction with the release of new devices running Windows Mobile 6. The latest buzz has the Treo 750 receiving the Windows Mobile 6 update as soon as next week. Additionally, there have been unauthorized copies of the Treo 750 update on some websites (not this one). Windows Mobile 6 is said to offer thousands of improvements over its predecssor and would be a welcome upgrade for all. Not to mention, this update will be free. Stay tuned!

TomTom Navigator 6 Update Includes Support For Treo 680

A number of members have had issues with TomTom Navigator 6 GPS working on their Treo 680. Apparently, there was a bit of code in the TomTom software that looked for the device ID of the Treo. Since it did not recognize the Treo 680, it wouldn’t launch despite being compatible. A seemingly easy enough fix, considering a member of TreoCentral provided an interim fix with a minor edit of the code. Palm has since posted a software update that provides full compatibility with TomTom 6. The Treo 750 is also supported with this release.
