Treo 800w

Well, what do we have here? It looks like a leaked photo of the Palm Treo 800w. Just so happens, this photo has been released leaked on the same day as the CTIA Wireless conference. No one can confirm if this is real or a fake, but it’s refreshing to see some spy shots of the Treo 800w. The whole thing started in a TreoCentral forum discussion and the alleged image was shared by a friend of a Sprint engineer who was beta testing the unit. According to the source, he’s going to try and share a photo of the device. The current leaked image appears to be pulled from a PowerPoint presentation. No way to tell if the Treo has been dieting, so we’ll wait for the blurry cameraphone leaked photos before we get too excited.

Palm’s Euro Release Not Centro But Possibly Treo 800w

Palm Europe recently pushed a teaser promotion surrounding the release of a new smartphone. This immediately led to speculation of a European launch of the new Palm Centro with the Windows Mobile OS. Not so fast says the Official Palm Blog saying, “it’s not the Palm Centro smartphone!“. The outlines in the teaser certainly look like the shape of the new Palm Centro, so what gives. Perhaps, this is the first release of a new form factor for the Palm Treo? Some have speculated that it could be the Treo 800w. A few months back, blurry photos of a white Vodafone branded device made the rounds. If both the Treo and the Centro have similar form factors, how will Palm differentiate the two? Vodafone was the first carrier to release the Treo 750v and it certainly looks as if they will be first yet again. All we know for certain is that it’s happening on September 12th and it’s being dubbed “the latest cool phone”. Stay tuned.\

Rumor: Gandolf images and Treo 800w

I suppose the appropriate title for this post would be rumors as several new rumors have cropped up surrounding new Treo devices. Rumored photos of a new Treo form factor codenamed Gandolf appeared on The Morning Paper blog. This image depicts what appears to be a new slim form factor Treo featuring a black casing running the Palm OS. The source claims this device will be available on Sprint in Q4 and support EVDO- Rev A.

Gandolf Treo

This image was later followed up by another blurry photo leaked on TreoCentral’s forums. The second “Gandolf” image features a white casing and appears to be running Windows Mobile Smartphone and sports Vodafone branding. Vodafone is a GSM network, indicating this phone could be headed to AT&T Wireless if released in the US.

Although none of the images offer a side view of the new device, it appears Palm will look to position Gandolf against the Motorola Q and Samsung Blackjack, both slim form factor smartphones. Similarly, it appears this new Treo could be the first not to sport a touchscreen interface.

If this weren’t enough, there is a buzz surrounding two new Treos coming to Verizon. The Treo 755p, released last month by Sprint, was spotted by a member of Howard’s Forums on a Verizon release sheet. If correct, the Treo 755p will be available on Verizon as early as July 4th. Continuing the fireworks, there is also word of a Treo 800w coming September 13th. Among the hightlights, the Treo 800w is rumored to run Windows Mobile 6 and support WiFi. The latter being another first for a Palm Treo device. Running Windows Mobile 6 will also allow for Palm to release the new Treo 800w with a 320×320 resolution screen, something that was not possible with previous Windows releases due to limitations in Windows Mobile 5. There has been buzz that the Treo 800w will find its way to both Sprint and Verizon Wireless networks come this fall.
